I rarely post on this site, so I hope the "regulars" will give me guidance if this post is in the wrong place.
With only a few weeks left in the season, is there any discussion/speculation concerning the playoffs, and which referees are likely to get playoff assignments? Also, is it true that one of the referees in the second week of playoffs (Divisional Round) will get the Super Bowl assignment?

Post officiating observations for all Saturday and Sunday games here! This is actually week 15, not 14 . I can't believe how quick this season has gone by.

There's usually quite a bit of speculation starting around this time of year. Also, it is generally true that the Super Bowl crew ( or at least most of it) will come from the Divisional Round. One notable exception: Walt Anderson did not work a playoff game prior to working Super Bowl XXV.

Also, is it true that one of the referees in the second week of playoffs (Divisional Round) will get the Super Bowl assignment? I'm working on this. There is a rumor that there will be a slight change to the playoff assignments. Nothing near to being confirmed yet. Stay tuned.

SJ Terry Brown had to leave the game with a right leg injury following an 89 yard kickoff return by the Bears that was negated by a holding penalty. LJ Danny Short moves to SJ.

I wonder why they went with 3 deep guys and 1 LOS? I would have thought they would either not have a SJ or moved Steve Freeman there.

In goal line situations, Gautreaux moved up to the LOS and Freeman moved to the SJ spot.

4th and inches for the Packers and the RG clearly moves early but no call and the Packers get it. Mark Hittner is a great official but that was a very bad miss by him.

Well at least Riveron has been consistent with his calls on those plays where the ball moves. But to me, as long as the ball doesn't hit the ground, the receiver still has possession of the ball even if it moves a bit. I wonder if the rule book defines possession or is this simply Riveron's interpretation. Interestingly enough, Corrente was the referee in the game in New Jersey when Safarian-Jenkins had that supposed fumble which set off all this nonsense about what is a fumble. Of course, I completely understand that the pass receiver must complete the action of the catch to the ground and if the ball had hit the ground, fine. But quite frankly, this has become almost a joke (and no, I didn't care who won.)
