Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young pitches the ball forward when he is beyond the line of scrimmage. Just like the NFL, if any part of the passer is on the line when the ball is released, it is a legal forward pass. Young is clearly beyond the line.
Not only is the passer's position reviewable, but also the direction of the pass. Here, the receiver is on a stripe and the passer is not, so even though we don't have an angle right down the line, we can easily make this determination that it was forward.
So, this goes down as a 1-yard run, with the 5-yard penalty administered from the pass spot. It is a loss of down, which technically means the down counts up to the point of the pass.
Cincinatti LB Deshawn Pace threw off the helmet of Alabama receiver James Williams after a tackle. This was swiftly flagged by umpire Matthew Jordan and side judge Max Causey. Although head line judge Darryl Johnson seemed to be closest, his view of the blow was blocked by the back of Pace.
The crew did a great job communicating all information to referee Steve Strimling, who included in his announcement the fact that Williams does not have to leave for a play since his helmet came off due to foul, and that this was Pace's first unsportsmanlike conduct of the game.
On a throw to the end zone, Michigan corner Gemon Green had his hands all over Georgia receiver Jermaine Burton. The back judge has a good inside-out look at this view, but the deep wing is looking at this the whole way. Either should be able to see the cut-off by the defender, preventing Burton from getting downfield to the ball.
This contact is material restriction and should be called.
Prior to the pass, the Michigan receiver was forced out of bounds. The contact continued while the ball was in the air. The offense never looked back for the pass, but this was because he was focused on getting back in bounds. This falls in the "cutoff" category and should be a foul.

On the late interception in the first half Of the Orange Bowl that there was targeting on, there was a missed pass interference IMO. I don’t have the video, but Bill Lemonier agreed and said there was a restriction.
Alternate Jeff Noggle briefly stepped in for line judge Robin DeLorenzo during a series in the second quarter. The broadcast made no mention of a possible injury, but it's possible she needed an ankle re-taped or something of that nature. Lorenzo was back at her position for the next series. Either way it shows the alternate must always be prepared to enter the game.
Referee Jerry McGinn flagged Oklahoma State for rouging the passer on a reverse/flea flicker type of play where the ball ended up back in the hands of Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan to throw a pass. Even though the ball changed hands a few times, he still gets the normal passer protections once he is in a passing posture and throws the ball. It's a tough call, but McGinn judged that Coan was hit low.
