Did you see the game where the referee actually walked into the stands and talked to members of the band about playing while the opponent has the ball?

Very unusual situation. I understand the need to get the band to comply with the rules, but it seems there could be a better way that doesn't transition into a wild viral clip. It's worth telling the game operations staff to get the information to them, and there can be a more meaningful follow-up through them. Then it becomes a security matter if they are noncompliant, rather than a possible unsportsmanlike conduct foul.

I have to wonder if Greg Burks admonished him for that. I think Steve is a good referee, but I’m surprised he took that risk. Even if he somehow thought TV wouldn’t show it because they were in a media timeout, he could have been accosted by fans on his way to and from the band’s location. It seems like a security issue to me.

It seems like a security issue to me. That's the biggest thing with me. Who know if a crank would rush him and take a swing? Get game administration to address it, or get the director's attention and have him or her meet you at the railing.
