Yes there was acting, but I thought Running into the Punter should have been called.

Yes there was acting, but I thought Running into the Punter should have been called. Totally agree on both points.

Give a proper and pleasant greeting, get all the sponsors in, get all the dignitaries names right, then toss the coin.
Nice job by Mike Vandervelde.

Alabama intercepts Michigan on the first play of the game. But the Alabama defender stepped out of bounds, leapt in the air, caught the ball, and came down inbounds. By rule, the player had to re-establish inbounds first for the interception to count.
Replay properly overturned the call and Michigan kept the ball.

A Rose by any other name...: Six officials today are returning to Pasadena after working last year's Rose Bowl. They are referee Michael Vandervelde, umpire Robert Richeson, head line judge Andy Warner, line judge Keith Garmond, side judge Fulton Carson, and center judge Chris Tallent.
All crew members worked a bowl game last year. In addition to the returning Rose Bowl officials, field judge Gariel DeLeon worked the Citrus Bowl, back judge Daniel Young was in the Sun Bowl, alternate official Tuta Salaam headed the Birmingham Bowl crew, and the replay crew of Mark Marsden and Buddy Gingras worked the Pinstripe Bowl.
Vandervelde was the referee for the XFL Championship Game in May. Richeson, Warner, and DeLeon also worked the XFL in 2023.
The NFL's training and development pipeline -- the Mackie Development Program -- includes 4 of today's officials on its current rosters: Richeson (since 2017), Warner (2023), DeLeon (2020), and Young (2021).
Warner, Carson, and Young were on the Big 12 Championship Game crew in December.

I would not be surprised to see Michael VanderVelde in the NFL pipeline at some point.

Good UNR call. It was unnecessary and rough. No need to light the fuse.

Nice work by field judge Gabriel DeLeon to make sure Tyler Morris stays inbounds and the ball breaks the goal line plane for this touchdown.
It was close to a horse collar tackle. Had Morris folded up backwards, it would have been a foul. But Morris fell forward thus no foul.

All three replays today have been very close plays. All three have been overturns.
This was initially ruled incomplete.

Harbaugh wanted holding on this TD run. Nothing even close to holding at the point of attack on this play.

Looked like there should have been a late hit against Alabama #3 on Michigan’s last drive. Was on the sideline of Warner and Carson.

Texas gets flagged for an illegal block below the waist while on defense.
This is a safety point of emphasis. A strategy by the defense is to take out the lead offensive blocker on a run by blocking below the waist.
This is a tactic the NCAA wants out of the game and it was a good call by the Big 10 crew.

The Huskies send in a late substitute on offense. By rule, the defense gets time to send their defensive subs in.
The onus is on the offense when it comes to delay of game. Washington substituted late and had to wait for Texas to get their personnel in. The play clock was about to expire for a delay of game foul on Washington. The Huskies had to take a timeout to avoid the penalty.

Instant replay changes a runner down call to an obvious fumble and Husky recovery.
While it will be easy to hoot on the officials for such an obvious miss, the Husky players screened the officials at the moment the ball came loose. Last they saw it, the Longhorns had the ball and the runner was down.
This is why college and the pros have instant replay.
