anyone know how the NFL VP of Officials is chosen? i know pereira only worked a few seasons NFL before he was promoted, and CJ was a LJ i think before getting the call. I would tihnk they would hire a former referee since they are the most prominent...perhaps like Vinovich or Carollo (although he is b10 CoO)

Anyone can laugh at this... but here is how it works.... NFL Executive Ray Anderson waits until he finds a candidate that he likes.... and he picks that individual. Nobody else has a say so....

WOW!!!!!! Mike Pereira Chat today(DEC. 7, 2010). He got UPSET with a poster.... [Comment From cobb cobb : ] The flag wasnt thrown on Harrison's Massaquoi hit because it was not being enforced at that time. They changed the enforcement because of that hit so why didnt they enforce it on the ravens Tuesday December 7, 2010 1:24 cobb 1:26 Mike Pereira: Hey Cobb: You want to call me incompetent? That's fine. But don't accuse me of NOT knowing the rules. I sleep with the damn rule book. I've been reading the rule book for 40 years. The rule DID NOT change. The ENFORCMENT did not change. The amount of the fines changed. Nothing else did. I don't mind getting involved in controversial discussions with fans. But I do mind when people make comments when they don't know the facts. ----> DO NOT MESS with Pereira!!!!!!!

Cobb's right back at it, saying "u are not god" and "god gets things right." Meanwhile, my non-snarky question which is a legitimate question about rules doesn't appear. Why does the chat moderator at FOX allow mean comments but not post real questions? (now that I've criticized, watch them post it)

Mike Pereira: I think a line needs to be drawn between football acts and non-football acts.
And I plan to discuss this in-depth in an article that will appear tomorrow on FOXSports.com(WED. Dec 8, 2010).

I'd really like to know who moderates the live chat and determines what questions are answered. Some of the ???s we've seen in recent weeks have been ridiculous.

I'd really like to know who moderates the live chat and determines what questions are answered. Some of the ???s we've seen in recent weeks have been ridiculous. it may be pereira himself. i did a live chat with espn.com's eamonn brennan during the Big10/ACC challenge this year. He was the moderator, as well as the expert, along with Katz and Diamond Leung and a few others. It was very informal. he'd post fun little quips people would send in at each other, it almost turned into a instant-message sorta of thing...with questions being answered of course. At one point we made fun of a guy studying in clemson's library instead of being at the the bball game, and he told us he was done studying and going to the game
