This really isn't about officiating, so I hope you'll indulge me.
Thirty years ago tonight, on Monday Night Football, Howard Cosell stunned the nation with some sad news that sent shockwaves across the country.
Now, with 24-hour cable news, the Internet, and cell phones this would be handled totally differently.
Even though this happened about a year or so before I was born, and basically would have no impact on me whatsoever, it still sends chills up my spine to hear it.

Remember that well, it ranks up with the Cronkhite announcement when JFK was killed, then Jack Ruby getting Oswald live on TV, sometimes TV provides too much information.

They say that more Americans found out that John Lennon died from Howard Cossell than anyone else.
This day and age, with the 24/7 news cycle and mediia such as Facebook and Twitter, the news that he had been shot would have spread like wildfire within 30 minutes of the shooting.
