This crew really struggled to get through this game. Hochuli isn't the same guy he was in the early 2000's. There's a certain amount of polish and sharpness he had on the field that is gone. Perhaps he was under the weather and wasn't 100% for this one, but it's been a general trend I've noticed lately. A lot of confusion within the crew...penalty enforcements, down/distance, timing, etc. A strong white hat has everything moving like clockwork. I'm sorry to be critical, but I'm trying to call it as I see it.

Hmm, I want to see a video of that. Always looking to learn. Was it 2 different officials who called this or just one making both calls? I believe it was 1 official - the deep wing who had that matchup as his primary. The officials' number is 4, who iirc is Wrolstad. One official, one flag, two fouls. I'm still confused. Sorry Becky, I said last week that Ed's better days are behind him, and last night certainly confirmed it.

After watching part of the debacle on the first two flags which were picked up, I went other places, came back later, and they had the double PI call, listened to that said this crew is a C-/D+ at best and went to bed. Last few games I don't think r85 and his crew have been that sharp.

IIRC,Tom Symonette amd Craig Wrolstad had differing calls on the double pass interference . In my opinion, that should have been DPI only. Roddy White had his hands on the DB but did not appear to extend his arms or push off.

Thinking about this last night, I would have guessed it was two officials like Howard mentions that had a difference of opinion on the play. It would be rather hard for me as a wing to attempt to explain to a coach why I (a single official) called PI on both players if it was not something that happened early when the ball was in the air, and then something late when the catch was about to be made.
I'm sort of surprised that this does not happen more often as the guys jostle for position in the NFL game. I guess in most cases, it would seem that if there is contact or what not on both sides unless it is obvious, this is a no call usually.
If anyone has a clip of the play I would love to see it.

i was still driving home during the double PI call, so no comments on that, but everything else I saw was like C or C+ work for the crew as a whole. I agree with the above that Hochuli wasnt inparticular bad, except he got tongue tied several times, near the end of the game he even called New Orleans New England one time before quickly correcting himself. I hope he gets a playoff assignment so he can "rebound" from 2 primetime "eh" performances. I've always liked him, and this week wasnt that good

I think its time for R85 to shake up his crew for next year...in particular HL, LJ and U...
Look at the Leavy and Coleman crews...good crews...performing much better...

How does two fouls on one play make Ed a bad official? Yes, I am an official. I would like to know how ONE official can observe TWO (offsetting) fouls but throw only ONE flag. Dropping the flag for the first foul and one's hat for the second is a better mechanic. Also, when did I ever say Ed was a bad official? I didn't. I said his better days are behind him, and last night's game, to me, confirmed that opinion. This opinion is based on my own observations of his judgement calls, game management, leadership on the field and communication (i.e. mic work.)

I also did not care for the double foul OPI-DPI, but if Symonette weighed in on it, it is understandable. Ed's work and calls were at least B+, and the crew did work together on a couple of situations.

I've seen Mr. Hochuli much better on the mic than last night. I haven't seen many of his games this year so I cannot accurately assess his performance.
