And, here's where subjectivity comes in. Had Pereira still be VP, he would have dinged the crew for the call; however Johnson gives them a thumbs up.
It's still an inexact science.

FF7, although MP initially said he was not sure about the call, he later backtracked so I am not so sure he would not have just chalked it up to a play that was so fact specific that it could not be given a thumbs up or a ding

Here is Pereira's take in his Fox column after the dust settled.
In the end, I think the league will defend the decision that was made on the field. There is no argument that this was a 100 percent judgment call. None are ever easy and are always subject to criticism. This was one of the tougher ones.
But in my opinion, Cruz slipped and stumbled and didn’t fall to the ground to give himself up. I think it should have been ruled a fumble. I just don’t see this as the normal way a player would give himself up.
He was clearly moving forward and gaining yardage when he went to the ground. I don’t think the rule was meant to protect him in this situation.
But then again, I had plenty time to look at several replays before forming my opinion. The officials on the field in Arizona had to make a split-second decision.
So it appears I was a little too quick on the draw to say that this was a "major error" by the officiating crew and I apologize to Mr. Bergman and all of Mr. Boger's crew.

.....however I'm not sure I've seen an official statement that Johnson supports the call...I've read several saying informed sources indicate Johnson agreed with the call (although maybe I missed the official statement)......

Overall, it seems to me that Boger and Co. did a creditable job in the game. Boger does not have great physical presence, nor is he gifted with a compelling voice or flowing rhetoric. But the game went on, and the final score told the story of the game from start to finish. I would give the whole crew 3.4.
