why am I not surprised after last year that McAulay has that game This always surprises me, given the assignments are supposedly drawn from a computer randomly. A few years back, 2003-2005, Larry Nemmers & crew were assigned Oakland vs. Kansas City games in three straight seasons and all three games were in Kansas City. Al Davis complained to the league and asked for no more Nemmers officiated games in Kansas City, since Nemmers lived only a few hours away.

hank, with how Walt Coleman has been conspicuously absent from Raiders games (I wonder if that will change with Al Davis dead) I have to think that the league makes 17 schedules and then assigns crews to each based on certain league preferences such as keeping Coleman away from Oakland or if a certain game projects to be quite heated (e.g. Pitt/Bal, Hou/Tenn) having a crew who will not get overwhelmed by it. Jerome Boger and Ron Winter are competent referees but if they have a weakness it is keeping a lid on things when tempers flare to prevent the game from getting out of control

The league looks like they wronged the Raiders by not allowing Coleman to officiate their games. Regardless of the situation, all officials should be available to officiate all and/or any games. When the league is protecting or omitting an official from a specific team it appears as an admission of guilt. I hope since Al's death, the league is able to assign Coleman to an Oakland game, thus making the problem appear to be Al's and not the leagues.

The thing is, we've never heard an explanation from the league why this was done. Is it an agreement between Coleman and the league (I don't think he lives in Oakland) that he doesn't want to do Oakland games, that he fears for his well being? Is it the league sort of cowtowing to Davis and the Raiders? You know I've tried several times to get on the weekly chats Periera holds (I always spell his name wrong just can't get the right spelling through my thick skull) and he has never chosen my question to answer (I ask the question in a very respectful manner like it seems to me that Walt Coleman rarely does an Oakland game. (I know the word rarely should be never) and then ask is this a coincidence.....never answers the question. Is it Goodell who has ordered this? Certainly while I might, emphasize the word might, be able to understand not assigning him to gets in the Black Hole, why not a Raiders road game? It's just something that doesn't make any sense or maybe we're all just missing something.

I think the league is merely following precedent. In a 1976 playoff game between the Raiders and Patriots, Ben Drieth made a controversial roughing the passer call against Sugar Bear Hamilton of the Patriots that may have cost the Patriots the game. Drieth never worked another Patriots game after that. Also I don't think there should be any safety concerns with nregards to Walt Coleman in Oakland. If the league is that worried about anyone's safety, they shouldn't be be playing games there.
