I have not seen him in a long time. Jeff Nelson ( 45 ) is that crew's chief at the present time.
Is he hurt ?
Good Umpire

Someone on another site posted the link to a minor league box score where Tschida was listed as an umpire. Hopefully this means that he's on his way back. Here's the link: bit.ly/p4bZk6Does MLB always have injured umpires spend time in the minors before they come back to the big leagues?

If they have an injury to their back or legs (or any other injury where stamina is an issue) they MLB sometimes sends that umpire to the minors to test their bodies out to see if they can stand up under game conditions. I know that it happened with Hohn when he had a serious back injury and missed over a year.

Not to mention one of the other members of the crew was that Japanese guy Hirabayashi... I'd LOVE to see MLB promote him someday!

Tschida has been working the last week and a half with Barry Larson's PCL crew on rehab assignment. With all the injuries this year a lot of umpires have spent about a week in Triple A before coming back. Paul Nauert, Paul Schreiber, Mark Wegner and Lance Barksdale have all done that this year.

I think Joyce had knee surgery. This happened in late June/early July so I doubt we'll see him again this year.
