If you watch this "Must C: Curious" video of the balk, it appears at the very end that Terry Francona throws his chewed gum at Angel Hernandez. Even the Twins broadcasters talk about that. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=14540715That will cost Francona BIG time -time AND $$$ Plus love how both sets of announcers are trying to get on Joe West for protecting Hernandez - what is he SUPPOSED to do - let Francona tackle Hernandez? All Cowboy Joe has to tell the MLB office is that he felt Francona was going to physically assault his partner - which by the tape it looks like he might just have. Francona really has to be on the hot seat there in Boston right now...they are six games out, and have shown very little consistency . I give the over/under on Francona's suspension at 4 games.

And the news is? And if not for the idiots piling on Joe West, what would be the Stupid Announcer Quote of the Night: "Well you can't give the pitcher both sides of the plate.." Why not?

This is why MLB needs to have some sort of security staff on hand to escort players/managers off the field when the argument becomes prolonged. It's an absolute embarrassment that Joe West had to restrain Francona like that. MLB needs to step up to the plate and do something before something really bad happens to an umpire.

Mike Muchlinski, AAA call-up had the honors of dumping Bradley. I more and more admire the new restraint shown by the umpires.
Umpires don't need to scream to get the last word. They DO have the last word. They point to the dug out and that's it. You're out, hit the showers, end of argument. The rest of the yelling is just background noise. Walk away, let the child throw himself on the ground, hold his breath and have a temper tantrum. You won, the argument is over.

And it does not take much to figure out, that if something nasty ever DOES happen, prime candidate #1 for the perpetrator will be Bradley - he looked quite a bit in that video of wanting to throw his bat in the direction of the HP ump Muchklinski.

I'm sick of announcers saying a batter had a right to argue a ball or strike call according to the rules they don't. I'd like see a rule stating that if you are ejected you must leave the field immediatly violation of this rule at least a 2 game suspension.

Bill Miller runs Josh Willingham: atmlb.com/mtIie4Looks like the pitch was inside. Willingham bumped Miller during the argument so he'll probably get a letter in the mail...

Why does every ejection have to turn into a dominance struggle? Why does it seem like every ejected player has to invade the umpire's personal space to try to get the umpire to step backward, look weak, and therefore make the player look right? Why can't they just throw equipment, waive their arms and scream from 4+ feet away? Is it maturity? Roid rage? A lack of respect?
If the umpire wants to get in faces and scream back (Hallion vs. Bill Hall), that's one thing. But what was Upton's and Willingham's excuse?
Frustrating.

I'll be surprised if Willingham isn't suspended. That was a pretty good bump he gave Bill Miller.

My best guess is that Torrealba had issues with the HP umpire in that at bat, and while jogging back to the dugout remarked to Fletcher or the first base coach that the umpire's strike zone blew chunks. If a player or manager rips on an umpire's partner, it's eject city. Rip on my partner, you're ripping on me.

There was a close play in the previous inning where Fletcher ruled an NYY runner safe when it looked like he was out. It helped lead to a big inning for the Yankees as they scored 6 runs. That, or Torrealba didn't want to put on his catching gear for the 9th inning so he gave himself an (expensive) early shower. EDIT: Here's the replay of the close play at 1st base: atmlb.com/iFZLgd

Mike DiMuro makes a tough call on a catch/no catch in the PIT-LAD game, and then tosses Juan Uribe and Don Mattingly: atmlb.com/iMSkZyThat was a really tough call for DiMuro. It LOOKS like Tabata made a clean catch from the last replay they showed, but it could've gone either way. DiMuro would've looked better if he asked for help.
