Of the "chosen 12", there are two slots for refs who aren't returning. Joe Derosa retired and Eddie Rush did not ref this season - not sure if that was due to injury or retirement.
It was a no-brainer for Javie to return after injuries. One additional question is whether a third spot may open up if Bennett Salvatore is left off the finals roster. He had fewer games and had a shaky playoffs (his self-admitted blown call in the Mia-Chi series).

Congratulations to Ed Malloy, who has really shot up the ladder in the last few seasons.

I thought that either Malloy or Marc Davis would be the 12th person to make the finals this year. Congrats to Malloy.

It will be interesting to see if Bennett Salvatore is in the Finals this year based on two issues. The first is this is the first year in many he has not been a Crew Chief for any playoff rounds. And on a personal note, I heard somewhere, former NY Giant Great Andy Robustelli was his father-in-law who passed away earlier this week. May explain why Bennett has not done as many playoff games this season.
Our prayers go out to The Robustelli Family.

Are the 12 going to be Javie, Kennedy, Callahan, J. Crawford, Ken Mauer, Ed Malloy, Scott Foster, Monte McCutcheon, Dan Crawford, Derrick Stafford, Bob Delaney and Greg Willard.
Missed opportunities, Ron Garettson, Bennett Salvatore......next in line....Bill Spooner, Marc Davis and Jason Phillips, IMO.

I believe the Top 4 are Javie, J. Crawford, D. Crawford, M. McCutcheon with Foster at Number 5.
Four Crew Chiefs for Finals....

I really do not follow NBA/NHL Officiating as much as I do MLB and NFL, but I am struck by the fact the same few officials work the Finals EVERY YEAR. I find it hard to believe that the same 12 -15 officials rank the highest year-in and year-out. If you look at the Super Bowl and the Conference Championship games (so you end up with the Top 3 per position except maybe if a rookie was in the Top 3) and there are guys who go from working that to out of the playoffs entirely the following season. In the NHL officials in their final year are not given a playoff assignment regardless of the quality of their work. Where is the incentive to actually do well if it won't result in anything?
