Game is this weekend. I'd like to hear from some of our CFL fans about this crew. Good luck to the officials! bit.ly/gQk14H

I couldn't be happier for Bud Steen. This guy has been one of the top referees for a long time. I'm glad he's hung in there. His last on-field Grey Cup was in 1989. And now he gets to do his last game as the black hat (in the cfl, the referee wears the black hat) for the Grey Cup in his home town. A real great story of determination. And in my view a well earned and long overdue assignment!

Here's a good article on referee Bud Steen: image.exct.net/lib/feec17767d6d0d/m/1/content_under_the_helmet.htmlI saw Steen officiate in a game at Vancouver in 2002 and I must say he's pretty good. The replay official, Jake Ireland, was a referee for many years and worked nine Grey Cups, and I also had a chance to see him officiate at Ottawa in 2004 (in that game he called 4 straight holding penalties on the now defunct Renegades). The other officials are young, I only had heard of Velcic. The alternate Andre Proulx has been a very good referee por the past few years.

During the first several weeks of the season (moreso in preseason), new referees get a chance to work. There were three gentlemen that worked referee just in the preseason. Another worked referee up until Labour Day.

Grey Cup Highlights: bit.ly/goE7QXWatch closely! It may be our only source of pro football next fall if the union and owners can't get their act together......
