Any word of if any umpires plan on retiring in the offseason. Hohn missed the entire year (presumably due to injury) Cousins is pushing 65. McClelland's skills have slipped in the past few years. West maybe, but he's not 60 yet. Let's just discuss information, etc., not say who we think should retire because we don't like that person. M'kay?

McClelland is probably on the verge of retirement. While he's still a decent umpire, his skills have declined over the last few years and he hasn't made it to the postseason since 2009. He's had a hall of fame career, but it might be time to hang it up.

I agree with ZCR. I love McClelland as much as the next guy, but wathcing him throughout this year he is done. His strike zone is much worse, he doesn't hustle as much as he used to and just has not looked as sharp since the 2009 ALCS.
I think there is no chance Joe West retires, he is still an excellent umpire.
I am torn on Cousins. While he is the oldest umpire and his skills are on the decline, I think he has a few more years left. He looks a lot younger than 65 to me.
I actually have had this prediction for most of this year that Jim Joyce may retire. He missed a lot of the season with an injury but even when he was healthy you could tell he was not quite right. You didn't see the smile and passion you always would see on Joyce and he was kind of a hothead picking up 4 ejections in just 2 months. This has been my hunch for months now. I doubt it will come true, but we shall see.
My new hires would be between Angel Campos, Mike Estabrook, Mike Muchlinski, DJ Reyburn and Alan Porter. based on my predictions I have 2 guys retiring meaning we need two new hires. I say Campos and Muchlinki are the two hired.

I would not rule out Todd Tichenor if there is an opening. Estabrook and Muchlinski I think have been vacation replacements the longest not that that means anything

I forgot to mention this, but I think Tichenor is a lock for the first open position. Hohn will retire with Tichenor taking his spot. I forgot that Tichenor was still considered a AAA Umpire since he worked the whole season with Gerry Davis's crew.

Derryl is a tough old bird - Occasionally the YES network will run on the Yankee Classic series Opening Day 1996. This was a game played in bitter cold, blustery winds, and occasional heavy snow squalls. EVERYbody was wrapped up like mummies - except Derryl, behind the plate in that God-awful red top the AL guys occasionally wore back then. At least you could see him ;D

Bill Hohn has officially retired.
Todd Tichnor has been hired and assigned to Brian Gorman's crew with Larry Vanover and Tony Randazzo.

Wondering if there is any news about umpire retirements since spring training games are about 3 weeks away and I am sure by now the crews have been selected for the new season.
