Ron Blum was the referee. This is a 4-part video and Blum gets the most camera action in part 1.
Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: Part 4:
IMO, the officials would have been justified in ordering that the stands be cleared so that they could finish the game. I highly doubt that the game would have been forfeited.

Good work by Blum. I think in Part 4 that he wanted to call the game by NFL brass encouraged him to finish it up.
Somewhere, there is a news paper photo of Al Jury flipping off the Meadowlands crowd as he leaves the field a half time to a barrage of snowballs.

In the NFL,the Referee does not have the authority to unilaterally declare a forfeit. Only the Commissioner has that power. I remember watching that game and I do believe Ron Blum would have ordered a forfeit if he had had the authority to do it. San Diego's equipment manager was temporarily knocked unconscious by one of those snowballs.

In clip 3, on the FGA, the two deep officials do not start under an upright. Why?

In clip 3, on the FGA, the two deep officials do not start under an upright. Why? Just a guess. For several years the deep wing (the F) started the play shading to his sideline, presumably just in case there was a fake field goal or botched snap. The deep wing who has FG duty is closer to defend his sideline.
