Big fumble scrum and Steratore had to dig to the bottom of the pile. He usually doesn't get down and dirty in the scrums. Nice job by the other officials to orbit the pile and snuff out any potential issues.
Then he called a intentional grounding for a safety on Brady.
Now Steratore's bleeding from the bridge of his nose - and he's not very happy.

Who would take over? IIRC, Wayne Mackie worked as a referee during a preseason game last year.

Great review and explanation of the review under one minute in the half.

Did you hear the explanation from Steratore after the reversal in the final minute of the first half.
You can't explain anything on the mic clearer

Russ, each crew has a designated backup white, and it is usually someone who has had R experience in college.
That's why Steratore was pressed into referee service after Kukar was wiped out late on season.

I don't think so.
Ron Torbert, Barry Anderson, Wayne Mackie, and Terry Brown all have had referee experience in college. Mark Baltz was a referee in NFL Europe.
You don't HAVE to have prior experience as a referee in college to be a referee in the NFL (Hochuli and Dale Hamer were not referees in college), but it does help.

Nice work by Paganelli and Weatherford to quickly rule possession on that muffed Jet punt.

Stills of the fight: John Lucivansky (partially obscured behind #33) enters the fray. If you look on the ground below Lucivansky, you can see Vernatchi already on the ground: After everything settles down, Vernatchi (75) and Lucivansky (89) get ready for the next play:

Nicely done tonight by Steratore and crew 3.85.
He came back strong from his last primetime game; he is leading his crew for a nice midseason push.
I look forward to seeing this progress continue.

I thought McAulay's and Steratore's crews were pretty solid today. Morelli's crew did what they could do to control that mess, although I thought Morelli should have warned both benches that he was going to start tossing guys if the BS doesn't stop. Send a stern message and take a little more control like I've seen Mike Carey do in the past.

I thought that Steratore and crew did a fine job last night. if I were to rate them I would go with a 3.7 I think that they did a fantastic job with the fumbles and determining possession. Only two things really stick out in my mind, one was the unnecessary roughness call against the Patriots where the Safety (can't remember the name) hit Plax and McCourty (more McCourty) and they called him for a blow to a defenseless receiver, I think that is a call where the "watch for it" mentality overtook the actual play on the field. Second, the play that was reversed at the end of the first half, I think you have to call that one correctly on the field, not rule fumble and have it overturned. That was the second time yesterday i watched as a ball was ruled a fumble when the player was clearly down and the contact with the ground caused the ball to become lose (KC game was the other). Sometimes I think the easy way out is taken and they rule fumble, knowing replay can clear up the mess. Neither of these impacted the game, so that's why I still give the 3.75. They kept it moving, and stopped the shenanigans with the flag on Wilfork before it got out of hand.
