The officiating in that game has been a cause celebre in NY especially on WFAN. This call (although one of the commentators agrees the 2d still image is totally inconclusive....they've been crying about the Jennings call, they've been claiming the Packer receiver was out of the back of the end zone, they claim the illegal contact on 3rd and 21 was ticky tack (they're right on that one)and there's a great deal of talk about a conspiracy on the part of the NFL (nonsense of course)......And it is generally assumed Jeff Triplette is one of the worst refs in the league.....

cj they may be confusing two plays if it is as you wrote. Jennings TD was the issue of possession and on one of the Driver TD's there was some question (as they did not show the reverse angle on Fox) whether he was out of bounds, came back in bounds, and was the first to touch the ball

Mike...my English as usual is warped up..I tend to write too many run on sentences...there were 4 plays bugging most Giant fans from that game and they didn't get the call in any of them (not that I think they were necessarily shafted on any of them...none of the "errors" if indeed they were was egregeous 1. The Jennings catch. I know I'm in the minority but I agree with Periera; he did establish possesion in the end zone with one hand for a brief instant and as soon as a player is in possession in the end zone the ball is dead and is in touch as the rule book refers to it..whether it's a touchdown, touchback or safety depends on how it got there. It was close and could have gone either way so calling it a touchdown was not the worst call in history. 2. The catch at the back of the end zone. The angles they played did not seem to indicate he had gone out of bounds and come back in. Besides, you complained about another call where the ball was caught and it ruled a touchdown and no flag was thrown (would have been meaningless), but how did the Packer receiver almost wind up out of bounds (illegal contact? ?? Of course) 3. The play Coughlin challenged with the still picture. Inconclsive of course as you cannot say by looking at the still the knee was down...it might be six inches from the ground. Looked like the corfrect call on the video. 4. The illegal contact on 3rd and 21. It is an unfortunate call and I agree it was ticky tacky but that call is made all the time, every day of the week and twice on Sunday and most are just as questionable. I hope I wrote clearer now. Unfortunately all 4 calls went against the Giants but none of them, in all fairness, could be called horrible calls.

according to the rulebook illegal contact is only when the QB is in the pocket and the ball is not thrown unless I am misinterpreting

Being a Giants fan, Triplette redeemed himself by his outstanding performance yesterday.
