One of the traits that makes an official like Hochuli so good is that he will use a few down years as motivation to make himself better. I think he certainly did so, and two consecutive CC assignments support this. >>>>> back in the beginning of 2010 Ed Hochuli got a Trainer. From what I heard this trainer got him in better shape & eating better too. No more Cheetos & Chocolate ;D I think by doing this made him better... he trimmed down & with better eating.... probably helped a great deal!

When I first saw the crews for the cc's and the SB I was disappointed not with who were chosen but who were not. I hate to bring up the race issue but only one African-American official in 3 games (I'm white) Undrey Wash ,Phil Mckinnely, Mike and Don Carey ,Byron Boston ,Tom Symoette,Terry Brown, Boris Cheek ,Keith Washington,Dyrol Prioleau are at least in the top 5 at there positions in my oppinion. I had Wash and Prioeau working the SB . I am not suggesting that Carl Johnson should appointed more black officials because he's black . I Think some of the above officials should be working the 3 games. I want to know if anyone agrees with me or if i am seeing something that is not their.

As for the media blackout since Mike Pereira left, his successor lacks in presentation skills. That's fine; i don't intend it to be a slam on him. His job is to be in charge of the officiating department, and the public outreach stuff is secondary at best.
FF7 posted here the link to Carl Johnson's video last week. It was not a streaming video, rather it was a download. There was an admonishment on the nflcommunications site not to upload the video in question. I can understand the media office not wanting that to be shared through the normal channels with comment boxes underneath.
That said, couldn't anyone host official review from the department? Johnny Grier's voice is even heard on the bumper to introduce the segment and he works as a supervisor. 2X2L, isn't there anyone on the air? Isn't there .... anyone?

It's quite obvious to me that Carl Johnson made some changes to the process. We used to be able to somewhat reliably determine who the CC and SB officials were after the Divisional crews were out, and even to some extent after the Wild Card crews/alternates were revealed.
At any rate, it appears that appearing on TV isn't Carl Johnson's thing. In this respect, I think Jeff Triplette would have been a better presence, and I think he should have gotten the position, but that's based on my limited view as an observer. I'm not privy to the inner workings of the NFL, and for the most part, none of us know what they know, so I always have to remember that when I'm puzzled by some playoff picks/staff changes.

I concur with FredFan7, great discussions. I hope everyone continues to respect the board, but also that everyone feels the freedom to express their thoughts.
I am uncertain, is this issue regarding playoff assignments for white hats only? I find that the determining factors for being the referee are not aligned with the determining factors for the other six officiating positions. Is this so? and if so, why?
Also, the Ed Hochuli love-fest I get, but for me, I am disappointed. I have been waiting for Ed to become the "topdog" of his generation by becoming the sixth referee to officiate at least three Super Bowls. For me (I do not mean to disregard past/present referees), Ed has not separated himself from the likes of Kukar, Austin, Cashion, Seeman, and McAulay. Although this is great company, my expectations for his postseason assignments has not been met.
