On paper the NFC crew looks far stronger than the AFC crew. Maybe had they swapped LJ and BJ it would have been a bit more balanced

Shows how little we all know.....but here's the question....is getting a cc alternate worse than getting a wild card or divisional assignment? Does it mean Anderson and riplete ranked below those who worked games earlier in the playoffs or above. And that still means some vets like Boger, Green, Carey are out.....interesting.

Guess Darrell Jenkins and Mike Weatherford ranked below 12th at their positions.

Apparently so. Surprising since Weathford worked the Super Bowl last year. It happens but it is always surprising to a degree.

Really glad for Carlsen, but I wish he'd have gotten a Super Bowl. He's never been, his retirement window is open, and he's top three. It'd be nice if he had gotten the nod. At least he'll be an alternate and enjoy some of the hoopla.

That's the one surprise for me. I thought he did ok, this year, but didn't set the world on fire.

Me too, I figured Walt Anderson would be the other CC referee. Go figure.

Like everyone else, no Walt Anderson is a surprise to me. Congrats to the guys selected on both crews however.

NFL has been sitting out Super Bowl officials the following year after their assignment to help get other guys games. This isn't always the case but explains why guys like Anderson and Weatherford are sitting out.

If an official wants to work the SB, he should earn it. If he makes it, he shouldn't be disqualified from the playoffs the following year. Not their fault some are good and others are not as good.

Doesn't this make grading from week to week, or game to game meaningless? I am for putting the best on the field; not a fan of "dumbing down" the competition.

Hsnk....that is if you buy this nonsense that it is possible to grade officials and see disernible differences in the grades. If you can explain to me how one really knows that say John Parry has had a better season than Mike Carey? Fewer controvesial calls? Some games of course can almost be worked in a rocking chair. Others are filled with contenteous moments. Once you've trained a referee and know that he is competent, than the ratings are total nonsense, always have been and always will be. If a guy is incompetent, fine, get rid of him. But if he is competent in what he is doing, and I believe almost all the NFL officials are competent and the ones that really aren't are weeded out in their first few years when they are ineligible to work the playoffs anyway, then these assignments should rotate. They've all earned it. Why was Pat Haggerty (just using him as an example as his name came to mind first)in the playofgfs every year and Gordon McCarter hardly ever? Yet Gordon McCarter had a long career as an NFL referee so he couldn'ty have been a bad referee. Why was Jerry Markbreit there every year and Fred Wyant not? You can't tell me Wyant was not okay as a referee; they certainly kept him around ong enough. It's just that Art McNally didn't like him but liked Jerry Markbreit who had a certain amount of piazz on the mic (not criticizing Markbreit in saying this but there were others just as good as he was). Try to understand it's all nonsense, it's all politics. In this case, it really looks to me that Carl Johnson went out of his way to pick some of the newer referees for the playoffs at the expernse of some old stand bys in some cases. I think it should be much more transparent and they should once and for all admit a lot of it is based simply on the supervisors' judgment which is fine but everybody should have a chance. Again, JMHO.
