I've read Pereira has voiced a reversal of opinion on his earlier view of the rule and the play. Mike Pereira: "I think it's time to change this rule. A pass should only be ruled incomplete if the ball comes loose in the actual act of passing the ball. If it comes loose in the tucking motion, then it should be a fumble." Hallelujah! Now the NFL just needs to fix the rule. It should have never been in the rule book in the first place. Way to go Hank! Last year, when Pereira noted his change of heart on the Tuck Rule, Carl Johnson came on NFL Network the next day to indicate his support for it. Thus, the continuity of support for the rule at the league office is maintained.
There has been much talk about changing the rule, but the Competition Committee has had 10 years to consider it, and has rejected changing it. (Although I haven't seen an outright rejection by the CC, I can't imagine that it was never on their agenda.)

He (Periera) has also had a change of heart on pass interference calling the possiblity of a 50 yard penalty on a judgment absurd (it clearly is).....and is a proponent of the college rule. Of course, the Competition Committee obviously thinks all the fans want is a vertical passing game what with the rules regarding contact by defensive players and the like. The problem with the NFL is a certain degree of arrogance that they know best and would never do something other leagues have done in the interest of a fairer game. Don't look for any changes; although I think they might consider making all plays that could result in a score automatically subject to review by the replay official and not the necessity of a challenge.
