To be rated #1 at your position two years in a row is quite the accomplishment!
Great call Laird!

Great to see an official recognized for the right reason. All too often, officials in all sports only get attention for controversial or blown calls. This was one of the great calls in Super Bowl history and it's nice to see it recognized as such.

If Laird Hayes was ranked #1 SJ in 2010 how come Mike Weatherford worked the Super Bowl? It was not that Laird Hayes was ineligible for some reason. Unless working the Super Bowl does not mean you were necessarily the top ranked at your position

Unless working the Super Bowl does not mean you were necessarily the top ranked at your position Weatherford lives in Oklahoma which is closer to Texas than California but I dont get that either. And then Weatherford didn't even get a game this year.

Unless working the Super Bowl does not mean you were necessarily the top ranked at your position It may be that Weatherford hadn't been to a Super Bowl yet, he scored second, and they wanted to give him a chance to work a Super Bowl.
