I had two straight Friday nights in high school football that went OT, but that doesn't hold a candle to Mr. Kersey's week! WOW!

That was some stetch of finishes. I am somewhat surprised that Bryan never followed Jess into the NBA. As I understand it, he did audition for the NBA, but nothing really came of it.

He saw first hand the politics (Jess was actually briefly fired in the early 80s), hassle, travel, and time away from family that NBA referees experience. Maybe he was content to make his own NCAA schedule?

True, kbyrd, but he can schedule games that a a puddle jumper flight away and doesn't have to go on a two week west coast swing. I remember Brian Kersey talking about how many of his games are two hour car rides away.
Yes, they can work as many games (or more) as NBA officials, but it is their choice. Ed Hightower worked no more that 60 games for many years, while Steve Welmer used to work over 100!

are his games now two hours away? He lives 15 minutes from me, and the closest game he has worked to our area since 2012 hit was Richmond and Charlottesville (90m and 2h30m away) ...
the rest of his games include cities like Milwaukee, Hartford, Homewood AL, Hattiesburg, Atlanta, Coral Gables and Poughkeepsie. He's had quite a few hikes for sure.
He's had just 11 days off since Jan 1, never back to back. His closest to b2b was Off day, then 90m drive to Richmond, and another off day. He had a three day span were he went
Chapel Hill Milwaukee Durham
that makes NO sense to me at all. but hey, the best officials are overworked. See: Hess, Ayers, Dorsey, Hightower, Valentine, Eades x2, Kitts, Sirmons, Hall

I miss-spoke. I was remembering this article: nyti.ms/zPnaUI and the following snippet. Cahill could not be reached for comment, but Bryan Kersey, who officiates games in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East, the Southern Conference and the Atlantic 10, said he was dismayed by the criticism of referees. By this week he had worked 80 games this season, but said he limited his travel to one-hour flights, worked out every day at his hotel and slept at least eight hours a night.Sorry, plane rides, not car rides.
