Jack Fette, five time Super Bowl Official, was from an era where it was allowed for officials to sass back at coaches. Jack Fette did that with aplomb. Here's an excerpt from Richard Lister's book about an exchange between Fette and Marv Levy - oil and water. Jack Fette was another who knew how to combat a coach's onslaughts. During one pre-season, the league dispatched a memo directing the crews to clean up the lax alignments on the line of scrimmage that pushed the limits regarding a legal formation. Jack Fette gleefully obliged.
During the first pre-season game, his yellow penalty flag seemed to spend more time on the ground than in his pocket. Levy, then coaching Kansas City, couldn't restrain his displeasure. This didn't bother Fette. "There was no love lost between Fette and Marv Levy," said (Terry) Gierke. Seeing yet another yellow penalty marker floating to earth prompted Levy to yell across the field in his most sarcastic voice:
"Hey Fette, are you trying to set a record?"
"Nah, I already own it," the line judge yelled back. ;D You can get the book at www.thethirdteam.com

Classic! There wasn't too much love lost between Levy and most officials.
