Ron Washington got ejected by Dan Bellino on his 60th birthday. This comment is coming from a Ranger fan who loves Wash. Ron, you got the benefit last week in Detroit when Gonzalez bunted the game winning run of his knee. The pitch was a bit high, but umpires are human and the call is not going to go your way every time. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21036905

Umpires can fine a player for thrown equipment. Looks like Hudson was ready to just leave it at a fine or scolding for thrown equipment and Schafer had a reply to Hudson that earned him the shower.

It does look like Welke was straight lined and didn't get a good angle. Or it could have been brain flatulence. I go with positioning. It was possible that the HP umpire, trailing the play up the line, might have been able to help had Welke asked for it. Welke must have known he had kicked it because he gave Mattingly a LONG leash. Mattingly was showing him up by gesturing how wide the first baseman was off the bag.

Angel Campos ejects Rod Barajas and Clint Hurdle over a called ball. Barajas was pulling pitches and then arguing with Campos. Looks like a good call and the Barajas EJ was brewing for several batters. Campos had finally heard enough. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21110313&c_id=mlb

Congratulations to Mark Carlson for calling balls and strikes for the Jered Weaver no-hitter.

did anyone catch the NYY-Balt game on Tuesday 5/1?
The HP ump was filling in for Joe West (who was on vacation according to the broadcasters) and he had the worst strike zone I've ever seen. He was a AAA kid, so his nerves were high I'd assume, but boy was it off
On a similar note, I was reffing a HS game last night, and allowed the throw in to be taken by the wrong team, who promptly scored literally 6 seconds later. Worst feeling ever.

kbyrd you sure you have the right game? Because the box says Layne's crew worked that game with Bob Davidson behind the plate

The home plate umpire should have stepped up to help make the correct call. Maybe the HP ump didn't step up because Welke is the crew chief...

Cory Blaser filled in for Joe West in Toronto on Monday night. Joe was at second base for yesterday's Rangers-Blue Jays game. Jerry Layne's crew did have Orioles-Yankees.
