Berneir receives boarding major and game misconduct in the first period. LA Kings score two goals on the major power play. Lead 3-0 at the end of one period.
The Devils will be talking about this call for a long time if they lose this.....

Actually they scored three on the PP. I thought the 5-minute call on Bernier was absolutely the right call. I know DeBoer was hot about the non-call on the hit on Gionta just before it but it just didn't seem as severe as the Bernier hit.
Any way you look at it, you can't come unglued and you can't allow 3 PP goals.

I am no hockey officiating expert (although I do love watching them work) but to me it looked like a good call. I was in and out of the game last night (put the kids to bed etc.) and missed the potential two minute penalty.
Do we know the referee who actually made the call? Kudos to him.

Dan O'Rourke made the call, but it was also O'Rourke who got the ire of DeBoer.
The hit on Gionta probably should have been a 2-minute call. But the Bernier hit (in my mind) was clearly a 5.
