Tommy Bell calls his last game - the 1976 AFC Championship between the Steelers and Raiders. They had engaged in a bloodbath prior in the season and Chuck Knoll was sued by a Raider after Knoll said the Raiders had a "criminal element" to them. Bell had become ill - he would later die of cancer in 1986. His illness was not disclosed to the public. Here is the coin toss. Pure class: bit.ly/LtEKc4Bell calls a penalty: bit.ly/MJAfeCAfter the Raider TD, the crew of Bell, Conway (27), Alford (24), Cole (86), Javie (29), and Miles (35) have to restore some order. bit.ly/Mm7AzkMore clips later!

I read somewhere that there was a rumor that Bell had been scheduled to work Super Bowl XI, but was pulled off the Super Bowl and assigned the AFC Championship Game due to the bad blood between the Steelers and Raiders. Jim Tunney,of course, worked Super Bowl XI.

Jim Tunney,of course, worked Super Bowl XI. That might be accurate. However, Tunney was more than capable of working this powder keg at that time of his career. Tunney worked the "criminal element" game earlier in the season, so maybe they decided to not trouble trouble and switched Tunney and Bell........
