The World Series was very well umpired. The crew had several critical bang-bang calls, and got all of them right. Most impressive was Dan Iassogna's out call on Prince Fielder at home plate in Game 2.

It was a very solid performance. I believe this may have gotten Fielding Culbreath a Crew Chief Assignmnet next year.

Think we can agree with the UEFL guys, and consider Gerry Davis Umpire of the Year? No ejections - possibly because he has more 'respect' with players and manager, he defines what a crew chief should be, as he is known for 'reforming' under performing umps.
Then there is his now record number of post season games - which these days MEANS something. It shows MLB is thinking along the same lines.
And I gotta admit, I order stuff from him just about every year! Some of his gear is very good, and so is the service. Nothing really to do with him being a superior umpire, but in a way it shows his respect for the profession.

I like Gerry Davis' approach to the game. He's cool, calm, and collected...not looking to bait managers and players into arguments and ejections. He goes out and works each game as a professional. What more can you say.

Gerry Davis is rarely mentioned because he avoids controversy - solid umpire for many years: W - WORLD SERIES,A - ALL-STAR,D- DIVISION,C - CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 1995 - C 1996 - D W 1997 - A 1998 - C 1999 - D W 2000 - C 2001 - C 2002 - A D 2003 - D 2004 - D W 2005 - C 2006 - D 2007 - D 2008 - D 2009 - D W 2010 - C 2011 - D 2012 - A D W

The 15 straight playoff appearances does anyone even come close? Closest I could think of is Gary Cederstrom who has made it every year since 2003. Granted since the Wild Card was added that has increased the chances of a playoff assignment, but even Hall of Famers like Doug Harvey would be hard pressed to have a streak like Gerry Davis has had

And how many post seasons did Tommy Bell, Tunney, Markbreit and Schachter work? You look back through MLB history, and when there was no 'rotation' in the World Series, the same guys would work almost every year for couple of decades, and then baseball would get another group of WS 'regulars' from Tommy Connolly and Klem, down through Billy Evans...Hubbard....McGowan...Jocko....you name it. Same thing in basketball and hockey, and, I suppose Aussie Rules Football for all we know. I suspect you will also see Culbreth and Iassogna be WS 'regulars' from here on in.

I would think O'Nora could become a regular as well. He was absolutely fantastic behind the plate in Game 4.

I felt Brian O'Nora has been underrated and under the radar for several years....A very good umpire.
