Wow, if this happened today there would be a bloodletting. Tony Larussa and Derryl Cousins get into a bumping match over a call at the plate.
Joe Brinkman comes in and manhandles Larussa out of the argument.
I'm sure Larussa got suspended a game or so.
What would happen today? Larussa would both be suspended. Brinkman would be reprimanded at least and probably fined or suspended for putting his hands on Larussa.
Back then? Probably made the blooper reel.

The White Sox went on to win this game behind a complete game from Tom Seaver, who notched his 300th career victory. As for the argument, Joe Brinkman most likely kept Tony LaRussa from getting himself suspended.

I agree.
But today, umpires get in trouble for initiating touching or bumping players. One umpire (I forget who) had to apologize for putting his hand on a Detroit Tiger a year or so ago when he tried to end a ball-strike argument and send him back to the dugout to avoid an ejection. Leyland made a federal case out of it, got ejected, and the umpire apologized the next day. Davidson got suspended this year for aggressive arguing, and in 2008ish Brian Runge got suspended for bumping Jerry Manuel in an argument.
Under these "new" protocols, what do you think would have happened to Larussa, Cousins, and Brinkman if this argument happened today?

I think LaRussa would certainly be suspended, amd Cousins and/or Brinkman would most likely get reprimands.
