That's an embarrassing miss. Maybe the wind dried his contact lense and caused him to blink. Maybe he sneezed. Maybe he just got turned around. I'm sure the official wanted to die after that miss.......

Lots of personal foul calls by Witvoet's crew in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. They have all been there.

Wonder if Jim Tunney happened to be watching that...

Michigan got hosed by a typically dirty Spurrier coached S. Carolina team, A measurement controversy, then on the ensuing play, that thug #7 shoots the gap and a helmet up under the chin knocking the QB's helmet 5 yards down field, and fumble...SC recovers, and scores...no call on the helmt spear, right in front of that so called referee, he reminded me of one of those NFL scabs.

JayJay dont what review you were watching but that was as clean of a hit you could deliver. His fm was between the runners numbers and he exploded upward towards the chin. just like he is supposed to do, as for the helmet coming off wear a properly adjusted headgear. And how much longer do we have to hear about the replacements? wow

That hit was perfectly clean. Remember it was a runner not a passer so the rules are different. Also let's not call players thugs. It was a very good hit by a very good player.

Russ:
Touche! My brain got to going slower than my typing....I meant to say thug tactic, to me the helmet driven under the chin or into the oppenents helmet is not necessary. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the rule book say its a foul if you use the helmet to punish an opponent? Or has that rule changed? I will say it was a heck of a hit, and is an item on Yahoo news now. But the camera view I saw led me to believe it was a helmet under rthe chin, that's where I'm coming from.

Clowney made a great defensive play by hitting the ball carrier. It wasn't late, low, or high, just hard! That measurement was a shame. Between the Rose Bowl and Outback Bowl, the Big East must be trying to make sure RR has some good footage for next season's training tape.

I must stand corrected, I looked at Clowney's hit on Smith in the the Michigan game again and it was a good clean football hit, done the way the guys are supposed to do it. My initial reaction was somewhat maize and blue biased...and reactionary. The Lions could use a guy like that, imagine him with Suh and Fairley.

While we are talking about legal hits I thought there was a great one in the Rose Bowl that rightfully was not flagged and although Terry McAulay did not get any air time the announcers did say they spoke with McAulay who was at the game and he did agree it was a clean hit
