Not sure if I like the automatic ejection for targeting. My worry is that officials will be hesitant to call it because the penalty is so severe, and they won't want any players to pick up a "cheap" DQ. Similar to how spearing used to be called.

I will go a step further and say I hate it. Officials are so often wrong on these calls anyways. I would hate to see a kid make a hard but legal hit and get kicked out of the game for it. If they are going to make it an ejection, it should also be reviewable IMO so that the Replay Official can make sure the call was correct first.

I do not like the injury runoff Yeah what is that about? It's not like the player is intentionally injured. This way too severe a punishment for an injury. I also don't like that 3 seconds have to come off the game clock on a spike. Why don't they just have the actual amount of time that came off the clock come off the clock? I find myself disagreeing with almost everything the rules committee came up with.

russ, if they wanted to prevent fake injuries in an attempt to stop the clock they could simply have a rule saying any injury in the final two minutes that results in a clock stoppage requires the player to be out for the remainder of the half/game as opposed to going out for one play then coming back in

An 8th official in the backfield opposite the referee??? What are they going to call this guy? U2?

Probably "backfield assistant" with an "A" placard.
If the games turn into flag-fests with holding called all the time, it will flop. If they call what needs to be called and help improve game flow, then an 8th official might be on the way.

I agree with the writer, I do not understand the 3 seconds have to come off the clock on a spike rule one bit. What is the point?

They are playing around with the rules as much as Lord Roger and his cohorts in the NFL. Why can't they just leave the game and rules alone and let them play....this garbage will filter down to High School next...

I think with the option to go to review in play its a ok rule. Now will there be mistakes with it yes, but as long as that option for review is in play then Im ok with it.
