Was really hoping R114 would get his shot. I guess that :26 killed him.

Was really hoping R114 would get his shot. I guess that :26 killed him. If that's so, then it is totally hypocritical on the part of Blandino. Ultimately, that error was HIS. Period. He was assigned to oversee instant replay this year no matter what you believe as to just who has the final say (I believe that as it has evolved during this season, it is him); at the very least he was talking to Steratore under the hood then he is just as responsible if not more for that error. Unfortunately in all the furor over the Bryant call, nobody asked Blandino first of all who made the final call (he would probably say it was a joint call; but then again how any sane person will contradict their boss because a case could be made, not saying it is clear or not, that Bryan lunged for the goal line which would be a football move and then asking Blandino who was responsible for the timing error. At least that's what I would have done if I could talk to these people.

So that's 3 officials from the Cowboys/Packers game (Schuster, McKenzie, and Hill) and 3 officials from the Panthers/Seahawks game (Perlman, Waggoner, and Miles) who are in the Super Bowl... yet nobody from Vinovich's playoff crew made it to the big one. Is it unusual that nobody from the Super Bowl ref's divisional round game makes it to the Super Bowl?
All of this is my own opinion, of course, but this leads me to think that Steratore lost the Super Bowl assignment more so than Vinovich earned it because of the lost 26 seconds as well as the general controversy surrounding the catch/non-catch. Don't get me wrong; I'm sure Vinovich will do great, but it just seems that if nothing controversial happened, then Steratore would be the White Hat instead of Vinovich (with the rest of the crew staying the same).
That said, I'm happiest for Schuster and McKenzie. They've risen to prominence since the Seahawks/49ers NFC title game last year and they proved their worth again last weekend.

I think it was far less dramatic. They probably paired Steratore and Schuster because they had an opportunity to do so. Vinovich was the frontrunner by far.

The biggest surprises for me is that they split up the Referee/Umpire combo form the second round as they had not done that the last two years. But then again it is not a rule that they must be paired up in the divisional round. I am most surprised about the Terrance Miles assignment mostly because he just does not seem to have enough playoff experience to work a Super Bowl. I think it would have been more appropriate to put him on a CC this year even if he ranked number 1 and see if he continues his success next year kind of like what they did with Dana McKenzie and have Keith Ferguson on the Super Bowl. But they probably did not want 4 Super Bowl veterans on the crew even though I don't think it is a big deal. I am sure Miles will do fine though. I have really enjoyed watching him work and he clearly had a very good season.
I am with Ben that I do not think Steratore lost the assignment. I think it was Vinny's to lose from the get go. I guessed Steratore a week ago mostly because that is who I wanted, but deep down I honestly always thought it was going to be Vinovich. The league loves him as is evident by some of the games he got. Much like CJ is skeptical Blandino doesn't make the final decisions on replays, I have always been very skeptical that the schedule is done by a computer. There is no way a computer schedule gives 1 crew 5 national TV games, a rematch of the Super Bowl, another lead 3:25 CT game in week 14, and a main 12:00 CT game in week 15. That is to loaded of a schedule to be done by a computer. The reason he had that schedule is they wanted to see how Vinovich handled the big games and while his crew did not grade out very well, Probably around 14/15 out of 17 among crews, he clearly he passed the test. There is no doubt in my mind Steratore will get a Super Bowl at some point, but the leagues complete obsession with Vinovich (a lot of which is justified), was too much to overcome.
Even though I am coming across kind of skeptical that Vinovich was actually the top Referee because watching him all season he just wasn't I am still happy he got this assignment. Remember, he left the league after 2006 due to heart problems and did not return until 2012 so to come back and b right on top of his game like he has been is very impressive and a feel good story. I just wish the league didn't make it so obvious he was the Super Bowl front runner.

Three for Perlman, two for Waggoner and two for Hill. Perlman, Waggoner and Hill were all on the Super Bowl XL crew headed by a referee named Bill (Leavy), which coincidentally also involved Seattle (who will be in it this year if they defeat Green Bay)

Also second position Waggoner has worked in the Super Bowl as he was the BJ in Super Bowl XL.

Kind of curious that Bryan is an alternate without having received a playoff assignment.
