From 1985: this Jets at Bengals clash gets really hot in the 3rd quarter when Bengals CB Louis Breeden picks off a Ken O'Brien pass at the Bengals 6, and appears to carry into the end zone. However, Ben Dreith & crew rule a safety for the Jets. Definitely an instance where a rules analyst would've come in handy in those days. Instead, Bob Trumpy is left perplexed on NBC (again!)

Back then, the momentum rule only applied to scrimmage kicks. It eventually changed to interceptions.
A big indicator that the officials got the call right was that Sam Wyche, known for flipping out on officials, took Dreith's explanation calmly without argument.
Yet, Trumpy drove the broadcast off the cliff Thelma and Louise style leaving the viewers to conclude the officials messed up instead of making a great call.
