Two of the biggest gaffes on MNF were by Jeff Rice, one of the most experienced officials in the NFL. I think the bigger problems are that there is little accountability from management and the hiring process is a joke. I get why you would want to hire former NFL players, women, minorities, etc., but the college officials working the top assignments are white men. If you are not working BCS games, Conference Championships, interconference match-ups of Top 25 teams, etc. you should not be under consideration for NFL job.

It's not just white men that are the top performers in College. They had Edward Feaster at Umpire and both Clay Reynard and Grantis Bell as deep wings all of whom are more than qualified to be NFL Officials. But instead we got two former NFL Players neither of whom are remotely qualified.

My point was that if the top college conferences didn't want officials working their top games why does the NFL want to hire them? Ed Feaster absolutely should be in the NFL over some at his position hired in recent years

It's also an issu e in the NBA. I read he bios of a couple new officials, and they had very little experience.
In the old days, you'd work your way up... Kids/high school/college/minor leagues/big leagues.
