We had a very unusual situation last night in NCAA baseball and I think the umpires screwed it up... badly.
The home team submitted its line up. In the 5 & 6 hole was, let's call them Bob & Joe. About 20 min before 1st pitch, coach swaps Bob & Joe so now its 5. Joe and 6. Bob.
Well the 2nd inning starts and guess what, Bob comes to the plate and eventually flies out. Then Joe steps up, takes 2 balls and then the visiting team coach comes out to assert batting out of order. He is correct. However, after about a 10 min chat with the home team coach and umpires, the umpires dismiss Joe and now have the number 7 batter come to the plate and assume the 2-ball count with only 1 out. That one out was when Bob flew out. Joe was not called out. He was just "dismissed." Honestly, in all my years of watching baseball, never seen a batter dismissed. Not even sure that's a thing.
It's my understanding that Joe should have been called out (2U) and number 7 batter comes to plate with 2 outs and 0-0 count. Am I correct?
Thanks for your time!

If you are referring to a game between Sacramento State and Cal Baptist, that situation / rule has handled correctly per NCAA playing rules. The game was officially protested by CBU and the NCAA Secretary Rules Editor ruled that the rule was applied correctly. Close CBU at University of San Diego. Thanks for the update. Where does one find this ruling?
