We searched high and low and couldn't find an instance of a crew starting a game shorthanded. A bunch of cases where there was some late shuffling to get another official there and rearrange the crew, but not a case where they started 1 down. Anyone else have a situation they recall?

Hopefully it doesn't come to that but if it does I am guessing they would put Willard or Monroe on non playoff implication games, of which there are not many.

Both are SJ so that makes sense as Pender can then sub for that official. Both are from the central area so Vikings/Lions would make sense then you have John Hussey able to work a bigger game. Based on assignments I think he could be a favorite of NFL brass for Super Bowl assignment.

I don’t know if this is a mistake or not, an hour ago the NFL officiating Twitter page sent out Week 17 assignments. That page tweeted out that Adrian Hill is the ref for The Lions/Vikings game and John Hussey has Saints @ Panthers.

Suprised Greg Meyer is not in that article. I believe he worked an NFL Europe game as a Ref. He too could do it...

Another is Alan Eck. While I don't think he ever has tried out as an NFL Referee he was a Referee, and a good one at that, in the MWC and the Big 12. In a pinch he could fill in adequately.
