More highlights.
Oldest footage of Jerry Markbreit working. Howard Wirtz was the referee.
A few notes. Only the white hat gave the TD signal. The black hats "punched" the ball over the goal line. What was "hustle" then is "hurry" today.
In 1966 closer = better. Wirtz was almost in the offensive formation. Wings shaking hands with the WR. That was the recommended mechanics of the day.

Officials wore green and red colored armbands. There were very strict substitution rules back then and subs had to actually go to the official and announce that he was now entered the game. Once he checked out, he had to stay out for the rest of the quarter (or half, I can't remember).
The colored arm bands indicated what official they had to report to.
On another note, when Wirtz signaled that a penalty was declined, he bent waaaaay over to signal. His fingertips almost brushed the grass!
