Not that surprised about Reynolds, as he dealt with concussions the last few seasons. Unfortunate, but best of luck to him moving forward. Hopefully, he can be the rules analyst for one of the networks, as he has a good personality & terrific rules knowledge for it, as seen here in a recent chat.

Another surprising retirement. I wonder if there is some type of early retirement incentive to help manage turnover as some of the 1999 hires are entering the retirement window.
I also think MLB being in love with robot umpires are also a factor.

At least three (Holbrook, Nauert, Timmons) are most likely injury related.

Completely shocked by Jerry Meals retiring. He was fairly healthy & seemed to be getting into a solid groove as CC. Ted Barrett does not surprise me as much as others, as, frankly, he wasn't a top-tier umpire. A solid one, yes, but not the Teddy B we watched earlier in his career be masterful at his craft. Additionally, with his son working in the minor leagues, he may have wanted to travel to observe his journey as a proud papa. The other retirees do not surprise me, as they were all dealing with injury concerns. To all the retirees, congratulations & best wishes on retirement.

Weird seeing #12 and it isn’t Gerry Davis. Moore may be a good crewmate, but his performance to date makes me wonder why he was promoted over Merzel, Riggs, and Willis.

New hires: Erich Bacchus, Adam Beck, Nestor Ceja, Shane Livensparger, Nick Mahrley, Brennan Miller, Malachi Moore, Edwin Moscoso, Alex Tosi, Junior Valentine
Not that surprised about all except Tosi & Moore. I figured they needed more seasoning over Merzel & Wills, although I think both will be used heavily this season & will be hired very soon.
New chiefs: Lance Barksdale, Dan Bellino, Chris Conroy, James Hoye, Adrian Johnson, Al Porter, Todd Tichenor.
6 of the 7 do not surprise me, as they have been used extensively in acting CC roles. Very surprised about Barksdale because, while a good 2, he never seemed to fill in at CC often. Not that I think Barksdale is incapable, but there are other guys who I think are more deserving. It seems apparent that the league does not want its 20+ year vets who already are not CC's to become full-time CC's.
To all promoted, congratulations!
