www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/37748983/sources-nba-investigating-ref-eric-lewis-alleged-twitter-accountReferee Eric Lewis is being investigated by the NBA after having been alleged to using a burner twitter account. If it is found to be him this could be a major issue. Many of his tweets have been critical of the Lakers and very positive towards both the Celtics and the Nuggets. Referees are obviosuly supposed to have no biases but his alleged tweets show otherwise. It is not a good look at all. He was a virtual lock to work the Finals and probably would have worked Game 6 or 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals but I would imagine to be on the safe side the league will hold him out of the Finals while they investigate further.

Eric Lewis definitely joined the "Twitter pundit sh*t list" after the Jan 28 Celtics/Lakers game with the big missed call. I'm sure he got plenty of nasty messages after that, but I really hope he didn't resort to making a burner account. The last tweet on the account claimed it was Mark Lewis, his brother; regardless, it's a big mess. Also problematic that the username in question is similar to the name of another NBA referee.

NBA Finals Prediction: Foster (CC) Davis (CC) Zarba (CC) Brothers (CC) Guthrie John Goble Tiven Williams Kirkland Kennedy Malloy Scott Blair (ALT) Taylor (ALT)
*If Eric Lewis didn't have his twitter incident I would have him in the Finals and Kirkland out. While it is possible the NBA could still assign him to the Finals I think they will want to avoid bad press and keep him out.

Went 12 for 12 on my Finals picks! I am not surprised that they held Lewis out, the optics of having him work the Finals while being under investigation would not be good. Here is the breakdown of changes.
Returning to the Finals- Malloy, Kennedy New to the Finals- Scott Down from the Finals Last Season- Capers, Fitzgerald, Lewis Done After Conference Finals- Lewis, Lindsay, Blair, Taylor (ALT), Ford (ALT), Mott, Maddox, Forte
Great to see Ed Malloy and especially Bill Kennedy return to the Finals. This is Malloy's 8th Finals overall and he is working them for the first time since 2019. Kennedy is in his 5th Finals but this is his first Finals since 2013. Great to see him back after a 10 year absence!
Congratulations to Kevin Scott on his first NBA Finals. He has had an interesting career in that he became a Playoff alternate very early into his career (2015, 4th season) but it took him an additional 4 seasons before he first worked on the court for the playoffs (2018, was an alternate from 2015-2017). The he worked the Conference Finals in just his second Playoffs.

Interestingly, this is the fourth year in a row that Marc Davis has worked Game 1 of the Finals.

Do the referees set in a rotation? Are referees slotted in for certain games? It used to be that crews would officiate Games 1, 4 and 7; another group games 2 and 5; and another group games 3 and 6.
Or do they do it different?

Or do they do it different? It is not a set rotation. Generally the 3 from each game will only work once. For reference here was the rotation last year. Game 1- Davis, Goble, Williams Game 2- Zarba, Brothers, Tiven Game 3- Foster, Guthrie, Kirkland Game 4- Capers, Fitzgerald, Lewis Game 5- Davis, Brothers, Tiven Game 6- Zarba, Guthrie, Goble

Congrats to all the officials on a great NBA Finals.
I don't think we will see too much turnover this offseason. Tom Washington and Bennie Adams are probably the most likely to retire. Michael Smith is 68 but is still in great shape. There's also a couple guys I could see taking an administrative role if one opens up. Any thoughts?

James Capers is another retirement possibility after he missed about 3 months but I think he will ultimately come back. This was the first time he has really been injured.
