With the Pac-12 down to four member institutions and potentially on the verge of folding, the officiating staff could soon be looking for work in other conferences. What happened to the SWC, WAC, and Big East officials when those leagues ceased operations or stopped sponsoring football? Did most officials find work in another FBS league?

Many officials would get an opportunity to join other conferences. I'm sure many officials from the PAC will work in the Big 12 or Big 10.
But, I'm sure some marginal or older officials will be aced out of a roster spot.

When the Big East became the AAC many of the Officials stayed in the AAC with a number also joining the ACC. There were also a few that joined the Big Ten.
The WAC was a little different. Many of the Officials in that Conference ended up retiring/not working Division 1 anymore when the conference ceased to exist. There were some Officials like Mark Duddy and Jeff Dahle who ended up in the Pac-12 and a few others who went to the MWC (Clair Gausman, Jim Farmer, Rico Orsot, Richard Corona, Dave Baldwin) to name a few. But most of them were out of D1 whether that was voluntary or not I do not know.

I highly doubt the conference gets a ny6 game assignment this year. None of the refs inspire confidence. Clark, Leyden, Mothershed, Strimling and Coyte all were deserving of their assignments. No one else is, and why give a conference with this many issues an assignment? This happened in 2013-14

No one else is, and why give a conference with this many issues an assignment? This happened in 2013-14 But in 2013-2014 there were only 4 BCS Games plus the National Championship and the AAC was considered a Power 5 for that one so 1 Conference was always going to be left out. Now with 7 NY6 games and 5 Power 5 Conferences I don't see the Pac-12 losing their NY6 Assignment as they are still considered a P5 this season. I understand they have had 4 Referees leave but that doesn't mean the 3 that are leftover or one of the 4 new guys can't handle a NY6 Game. Mike McCabe and Matt Richards have worked the NY6 before, just not as a Referee. And Mark Duddy has worked the Citrus Bowl which is often considered one of the best non NY6. Obviously the loss of Coyte, Strimling, Mothershed and Villar puts them in a tougher spot but I have confidence that they can fill out 1 NY6 game. I would agree they will probably not be working a Semi-Final or the National Championship.

Thank you, Russ, for this helpful information! I really appreciate it. Was Mark Duddy a white hat in the WAC?
