Former BJ Ben Tompkins died on April

Former back judge (now field judge) Ben Tompkins, who officiated from 1971 through 1990 in the NFL, wearing uniform number 52 (Number 4 from 1979-1981), on April 28, 2023 at the age of 93. Tompkins worked in Super Bowls XIV and XVIII. Other notable games he officiated were the 1974 AFC Divisional Playoff between Miami and Oakland (The Sea of Hands) and also the 1986 AFC Championship game (The Drive), as well as other 4 Conference Championship games.
