Interesting crew. Three Officials who are pretty much always ranked highly at their position working their third and fourth Super Bowls but we also four new guys which is more than what Anderson and Riveron have been having. Vinovich is very clearly the top Referee and has been for about 10 years now. He's the McAualy, Markbriet, Tunney of this era. Was mentioned before but this is now his 10th straight season working the Divisional Round or better and 8 out of those 10 seasons he has been in the CC or Super Bowl.
Very happy that Perlman and Hill both go out on top. Both are exceptional Officials working their fourth Super Bowls. Interestingly all three returning Super Bowl Officials worked Super Bowl XLIX together. This is the third time Perlman and Hill have worked a Super Bowl together. Both could easily have stuck around a few more years but are choosing to go out while they are still good. This is the 8th season in a row Hill has worked the Conference Championship or Super Bowl and he had worked 5 straight CC's before this season. Just an incredible run that gets overlooked because he is not a White Hat. He must seriously never miss more than one call a season.
Perlman also will have worked the Playoffs every year he was eligible. He didn't quite have the CC run Hill had as he actually worked 2 Super Bowls before ever working a CC which is very odd. He ends with 4 CC's and 4 Super Bowls and an incredible number of Playoff Assignments overall.
As far as the new guys Baynes and Freeman are extremely deserving and it has been a really long time coming for both. The fact that it took Baynes this long to get his first Super Bowl is criminal. He had worked 4 CC's before getting this assignment. At least he won't go the way of Baltz and Dornan and does get a Super Bowl, the fact that those 2 never did despite all of their CC's still makes me upset to this day. Freeman has worked 2 CC's and been in the Playoffs every year he has been eligible. He gets to work the Super Bowl 10 seasons after his dad worked his, I am sure Steve is very proud.
Killens and Holt join the rarified air of working the Super Bowl in their fifth season, which is the first season they are eligible. Killens is fascinating because he really struggled in the AAC only working one Bowl Game and missing Bowl Games his last 3 season before getting hired by the NFL. But he has really taken off working two Divisional games and one Wild Card. Despite not having a previous CC, which actually happens a lot with first time Super Bowl Officials, he seems like he's been one of the top Umpires since entering.
With Holt he joins the group of Officials who have now worked a College Football National Championship and a Super Bowl. However his is the assignment I am most skeptical of. While he has worked the Playoffs every season he has been eligible this was his first season outside of the Wild Card. Seems like a very big leap from Wild Card 3 times straight to Super Bowl. I am sure he will do just fine, he was really good in the Big Ten and has been very good so far in the NFL. But with his past resume I think I would have preferred having him work the CC this year and had someone like McKenzie in the Super Bowl.

Congratulations to all appointed. Just to fix my ‘Refereeing nerdish” can someone tell me when Vinovich stepped down due to his ill-health who replaced him and then when he returned who did he replace? Please and thank you.

John Parry replaced him initially. He came back first as a swing official and then I think Alberto Riveron left field so Vinovich replaced him.

Vinovich was a swing Referee in 2012 after the lockout ended. He got his own crew in 2013 after Riveron retired to come into the office with Dean Blandino.

Ironically, the Replay Official for both of those Super Bowls was also the same.
