The umpire can't be please to have Uribe throw a rabbit punch over his shoulder.

Bad sequence for the plate umpire. But I have to say, it takes special patience to not turn violent when David Bell argues.

Is the plate umpire Tumpane? The safe/out call is as close as you can get. Replay would have gone with whatever he called on the field. Blocking the plate? I think the Cubs got away with one.

Plate ump was Charlie Ramos (111). As for the blocking, unless I'm misinterpreting the rule, I think it's legal, albeit barely, so long as the runner doesn't have to make a move that isn't within the stride standing (think olé) or slide path of the runner (think swim move). In other words, a straight line (cough: look at the chalk: cough). The front part of the plate is technically clear up until the catcher makes a play on the ball. The tricky part is the runner ends up lifting his hand (à la swim move) when he has a clear enough lane to fully slide into the plate, which visually makes it plausible to be a violation, even though the catcher has to play the ball. The catcher's positioning, unless I'm not reading this rule correctly, would be legal only on plays towards the left side of the field (which, yes, makes this a flawed rule).

Jason Benetti was run off by the Chicago White Sox because ownership didn't like him, and he wound up in Detroit. You'll also see him on Fox sports events. Talented announcer. His replacement is not ready for MLB.
Hoye did his job. He took care of business. No matter. I think the entire Sox coaching staff are short-timers.
