With four LOS hires I'm wondering if Derrick Bowers will be able to pass a physical after his injury.

Maybe Fred Bryan moves back to U? Maybe they increase the number of “swing” officials?

Interesting new hires. We've got 2 guys from the Big 12 who were slam dunk hires in Anderson and Richeson. Both guys were basically NY6 Officials every season.
Brian Perry is also a very good hire and somebody I fully expected to be hired when I saw there was going to be 2 LOS openings. He worked the 2022 National Championship and the 2023 ACC Championship so he was the one of the top HL each of the last 2 seasons. Was also one of the top HL's in the AAC when he was with that conference.
The 2 Pac-12 hires are interesting and not who I would have expected at all. Tovar has moved around a lot in her time in FBS. She spent 2020 in C-USA before being hired by the ACC for 2021-2022. Then she was in the Pac-12 last season. I am not sure if she moved to the Pac-12 on her own or if she was let go by the ACC. She didn't work any Bowl Games her first 3 seasons but worked the Pinstripe Bowl last year. The Pac-12 generally does not give first year Officials Bowl Games so that probably means she had a good season last year. But even still, working 1 mid level Bowl Game in your 4th season is not enough for me to hire her. Hope I am proven wrong and she does a good job, but IMO this was a shaky hire. If you wanted to hire a women both LaShell Nelson and Nicole Randolph were better deep options.
Hutcheon is a hire that just came out of nowhere. I would guess he was in the unreleased Mackie Development group for 2023 because other than that there is not much Minor League work from him. He is not working the UFL this season and did not work either the XFL or USFL last season. He did work the 2024 East-West Shrine Game but that is the extent of his MDP On field work. That is not to say he is a bad Official because he has been pretty much a Bowl Game regular throughout his MWC and Pac-12 career. He worked the Reliaquest Bowl last year which is always one of the best non NY6 games meaning he probably ranked second among Pac-12 LJ's last season. It is just strange to see someone hired who has really not been part of the MDP at all and not worked a Spring League.

Hutcheon is also in his late 50s, which would be the record (beating Land Clark) for the oldest NFL rookie that I can think of.

What is stunning about this is Derek Anderson has only been a referee for 3 years. Usually the NFL hires guys after 6 or so.

Anderson was a LJ from 2016-2020 working 4 NY6 games during that time period so it is not like he is completely new. Heck Shawn Smith was only a Big Ten Referee for 1 season before being hired by the NFL, although he was a Referee in the MAC for a few years.

I'm guessing Tovar moved to the Pac 12 to be closer to home, they had lots of open positions last year. If she hadn't been hired by the NFL it appears she was going to work for the Big 12(according to the UFL officials story on FZ.)
