I had heard this as well, but wanted to confirm before I unleashed that. However, it's in the public sphere, so there's the confirmation.

Scott Dawson, U70 retiring.
Wyant, Steenson, Rose, Green, and Dawson confirmed retired.
These are the most retirements we've had in one season in a long time.

Who are the candidates to replace the guys retiring? When does the NFL contact new hires?

Who are the candidates to replace the guys retiring? When does the NFL contact new hires? My best guess is that the 21 trainees are the leading candidates to replace the retirees. The finalists are interviewed in February/March, and the final hires are made late in March.

Congratulations to both men on outstanding careers. Green is in the rare category of someone who worked three Super Bowls. Russ didn't Jerry Markbreit work four SBa?

Early word is that the 21 were placed in the tier system similar to the playoff system and the lower tier were asked to work on their craft a bit more. Also, seems to be a lot of toes testing the temperature of the retirement waters ... Stay tuned

Congrats to the five retiring officials, hopefully we'll see them in another capacity down the road...
