Second straight week I have a quibble with a defenseless receiver call. In this case the Seahawks WR lowered his head to absorb the hit, and went into Reid's strike zone. I know why the NFL wants this called, but what can a DB do safely to lower the strike zone? To me this was a textbook call. Reid not only went high but led with his helmet and left his feet. After his two PF's on the same drive he can expect a heavy fine from the NFL this week.

Philip Rivers just went off on Jeff Lamberth for not calling a PI on a third down in the rezone and Lamberth gave it right back to him. That was one of the first times I have seen a player Official argument in football, Lamberth also gave him the Joe West dismissive wave at the end. Mike McCoy was very unhappy and confronted Roy Ellison and Tim Podraza at the end of the half. This is seemingly small but as a Referee Wrolstad should have come over to talk to Mike McCoy. It shows leadership that Referee's should possess. I am not worried about him as h has looked excellent as a Referee and Blandino is clearly high on him based on some of the assignments he has gotten this year.

Perhaps next to nobody is watching the NYJ-TEN Loser Bowl but an interesting situation. Geno Smith was all but tackled in the end zone but just before his knee hit the ground the ball came loose and was recovered by the Jets in the field of play. Ruling on the field was a fumble and Jet recovery. Play was challenged by Titans claiming it was a forward pass by Smith. Following replay (and of course the final call was made in NY no matter what lies they tell you, the referee comes out and announces the play has been reversed to an incomplete forward pass and he was calling intentional grounding in the end zone which, of course, is a safety. Mike Carey, playing the role of Mike Perieria for CBS, immediately says while the reversal is correct you cannot impose intentional grounding penalty on the basis of replay and is very adamant about it. About five minutes later, Blandino apparently calls Carey and tells him the referee said he was going to call intentional grounding if it was a forward pass. By common sense, of course it is the correct call but whether technically the call was within the rules is another matter!

Carey is right in being wrong.
Parry announced there was no intentional grounding because it is a fumble. This is essentially a flag pickup, even though there is no flag. The reversal made it a pass, but then reverses the flag pickup into a flag. This is the only way this can happen, as grounding cannot be determined in replay.
Similar situation: on a punt, a referee announces that there is no roughing the kicker foul, because the defense tipped the ball. You can replay whether a ball is touched/tipped or not, but you cannot review roughing the kicker. In this case, you can review the touch which reverses the flag pickup for roughing.
IF there is no announcement prior to replay, then those grounding and roughing calls CANNOT be made.

Jim Harbaugh back to his old tricks. Two very obvious personal fouls against Eric Reid and he thinks they are bad calls. The first one was a hit while the runner was already out of bounds and the second was one of the most obvious helmet to helmet calls I have seen. Great calls by the crew and Harbaugh is just being Harbaugh. It is very hard to take that guy seriously when he is wrong so often on his arguments. These were not borderline calls, they were obvious. Next year, the Big 10 Referees won't tolerate his antics when he and his Wal Mart khakis are coaching at Michigan!

Bad call for RTP in the Niners Seahawks game. Ed even announced head to the chest.

Hochuli's crew has been good all game, but Ed called a pretty bad RTP call against SF#54. Just didn't look like enough to throw the flag.

Sorry if I'm coming off as the outsider cracking on the officials, but the RTP against Russell Wilson to keep Seattle's drive was brutal. I am kind of having 2nd thoughts about my earlier complaint, but this particular call was awful & Mike Pereira is about to go on the game to say the same thing.

Could have been illegal contact but it would have been pretty ticky-tack.

Pereira agrees with Mike Carey and says that should not have been called IG since there was no announcement on the field for what it's worth... If Those two are right, Parry will certainly be getting a downgrade and that is the kind of mistake that costs people playoff spots since it is administrative. I am not saying that Parry didn't announce it since I did not see the play in question, but it is possible Parry announced it and the TV crew did not beam in to Parry's mic. I don't know, interesting situation from what is a pretty hideous game.

Thank you for expressing it without calling for a re-convening of the Nuremberg Tribunal and a public burning at the stake with 49er fans toasting marsh mellows in the pyre.

Mike Carey like the RTP call in Seattle:
@mikecareyref94
I disagree with @mikepereira . The defender led with the crown of his helmet, then Wilson's face mask was hit. #SFvsSEA

That could be the single dumbest thing I have ever seen in 40+ years of watching the NFL.
I mean that.
