Agreed about Steratore.
If there's ever an R that goes to the show in his first year of eligibility, it is him.
I'd still like to see Winter get the SB.

My guess is that Steratore will get a CC this year (did he ever get one as a FJ?) and then a Super Bowl in the next 1-3 seasons. If he did a CC as a FJ, he could be in the running..... AFC Championship Game Pittsburgh Steelers At Denver Broncos 1/22/2006R - Terry McAulay (77) U - Scott Dawson (70) HL - Derick Bowers (74) LJ - Mark Steinkerchner (84) SJ - Doug Toole (4) FJ - Gene Steratore (114)BJ - Keith Ferguson (61)

Thanks for the info. Winter did a CC as a LJ, and Steratore has CC experience. Pereira said prior that one needs to have five years experience at R and a CC under his belt at any position in order to be considered for a Super Bowl.
Both Winter and Steratore are in the running.

I also know for a fact that Winter was the alternate R for the 1998/1999 AFC title game between the Jets and Broncos. I was at the game, and I specifically remember seeing him and Ed Hochuli standing together on the outside edge of the field during pregame.
I also think that this was only Winter's 1st or 2nd year as a referee.

I am beginning to believe that based on the number of Nationally televised games Ron Winter has officaited, he will be a top contender for the SUperbowl

I also think that this was only Winter's 1st or 2nd year as a referee. That was his first year as a referee. The previous year, he worked the AFC championship as a line judge. In his second year as referee, he worked the AFC Wild Card game. A couple of years later came the infamous 49ers/NYG game. More recently, in the 2006 season, he was again an alternate at the AFC CC. The 2008 season, he worked the AFC Wild Card and was the SB alternate, so he is indeed eligible.

both of them are due for one soon, both fantastic officials

I always thought Walt Anderson would get a SuperBowl as he is and has been a very good official and a staple in the playoffs.....For the past several years I thought he would be there...There is very limited mention for him to be considered for the Superbowl this year....Has his performance fallen off of has the competition risen?
I also like Cheffers along with Parry and Steratore. I believe Steratore will be the first one of the three receiving a SuperBowl assignment and would not be surprised if this is his year.

If it is official ,it is way too early for the nfl to assign playoff games with 5 weeks to go.

It was prime time for Anderson to get a Super Bowl after Austin and Kukar retired and Parry, Steratore, and Cheffers were finding their way. Now they have caught up. Anderson is still a Super Bowl capable official; however the new kids on the block are getting everyone's attention.

Also, I tend to lean to a "now or never" mentality with certain guys, like Winter, Anderson, Coleman, etc.

Last year, I thought that either Anderson or Morelli would get the Super Bowl. Green's assignment to the Super Bowl came out of nowhere, and I know that several people on this site were very surprised as well.
Here are the categories I place referees in with regards to getting a Super Bowl assignment:
Window is Far From Being Open Blakeman (obviously) Riveron
Window is Almost Open Boger Cheffers
Window Just Opened Parry Steratore
Window is Wide Open Corrente Leavy McAulay Morelli
Window is Almost Closed Anderson Carey Green Hochuli (Sorry Becky) Winter
Window is Closed Coleman Triplette
Feel free to agree or disagree!
