This is interesting. Billy Butler hits what is called a HR for KC. The umpires review it and stay with their call. The Royals broadcasters believe this call should have been changed, and since they know what is a HR in their park I trust them. Plus, after DeMuth signals HR all the Royals all smiling. mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=18135183And Mariano Rivera got thisclose to being run.

Girardi was this close to being run as well since reviews of HR are like balls/strikes in terms of ejections if you argue

And Mariano Rivera got thisclose to being run. HORRIBLE call..... It took the umpires at least 5 minutes to review the call. It was a tough one to make on the field but it should have been EASY to overturn after viewing the replay. It ended up being a pretty big call as the Yankees lost the game by one run.

According to one source, the ball hit the top of the wall, then the railing behind it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, if the railing is benind the wall, it is out of the plane of the wall, and off the field of play. if so, it would be a home run, because the ball left the field of play. Then the call would be correct.

The question is ...is it on top of, or on the backside(grandstand) side of the waill? If it is attached on the inside, it could still be considered to be beyond the field of play.....see my point?

kansascity.royals.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=15454829&query=%26game_pk%3D287731This is a homerun call from two months ago. To me it looks exactly the same as the one Butler hit yesterday. I really don't think two different umpiring crews would both mess this up. I have a feeling the groundrules state if it hits anywhere on that green padding it is a homerun. I trust Dana Demuth and Gary Cederstrom a lot more than the Yankees brodcast network.

For me it's simple: The ball should have to clear everything in order for it to be a home run.
The Royals should paint the padding at the top of the fence yellow, change the ground rules and eliminate the grey area.

It is my understanding that MLB has to approve the plans for a stadium prior to it being built. Why do they approve these weird designs that can cause controversy. When the Padres played at The Murph/The Q, there was a wall in front of the wall where the bleacher seats were. If it was over that, it was a home run. No fan interference, no padding and rail combination, just a simple wall and it made the call easy. Some of the yellow lines we see is some of the more modern stadiums look like a bad jigsaw puzzle. It'd be nice if MLB and/or Dud could, going forward, do something to prevent these situations from happening.

Once Demuth explain his ruling to Girardi he cannot continue to complain about the call. This not a protestable call.

Wait til you see THIS video when it gets posted - believe it or not the Yankees are involved with ANOTHER HR review. This time Justin Morneau hits a blast which the 1B umpire Wolf calls a HR wrapping around the pole. Girardi asks for the review, and after another long look, O'Nora calls it foul ball. Gardenhire immediate comes out and starts screaming at him, guestering, and gets run. Morneau then proceeds to strike out, and it LOOKED like he wanted slam his helmet down...but thought better of it.
Oh, and Torre now says that the umps got last night wrong - gee, thanks Joe.....

West had the Tiger-Indians plate behind the dish...his strike zone had more ripples in it than the Pacific Ocean...both pitchers didn't know whether to throw the low stike at the knees or not.....McLelland has it tonight, at least he's consistent in his strike zone. The pitchers didn't know what to throw around the knees, cause you never could tell if he'd ring it up or not.....you could tell by their body language and looks in at the plate they were frustrated, and he stood there with the deer in the headlights look on his face. Why do they keep this guy around?
