Gotta see this mess down in the International League with the PawSox and the AAA Yankees - the Yankees are the 'home team' -- in Pawtucket! This is due to their weird nomadic schedule with the ballpark in Scranton/WB being renovated. Enjoy this -- reversed foul ball/home run call turns into a REAL ugly situation: telly.com/7FFQG

Another marathon game for James Hoye, who worked the plate in the 19-inning Pirates-Cardinals game in St. Louis. Of course, Hoye was also behind the dish for the 17-inning Orioles-Red Sox game earlier this year at Fenway. The time of each game: 6 hours,7minutes.

I cannot seem to find it anywhere else.

Nobody should be working, in this day and age, home plate for that length of time. There should be a rule that after 4 hours, the home plate umpire switches positions with one of the other membersd of the crew. I know this might be contrary to custom but it's just not right for anybody to squat up and down for 6 hours.

cj, if it were me I would make the offer to the home plate umpire but if he chooses to remain behind the plate what else can I really do?

I suppose Bell was show following the league mandate and certainly if that is so can't be blamed. But why wasn't there a warning after the first one and that second pitch wasn't all that close and the batter wasn't in danger of being hit. I agree with the commentator in old time baseball it would have been okay boys you've both had your fun now let's play. Oh well. I guess I'm just a barbarian.

About 2 years ago, at PETCO park, he made a horrific call at the plate. David Eckstein crosses the plate standing up. The next runner slides to the outside of the plate dragging his hand across the plate. No signal from Lance. Then the catcher tags the runner about 15' or so from the plate. Lance calls him out. Eck pleads with Lance to look at he plate, but he won't turn around to look at it. The drag marks from the runnner's hand were there in clear view. Then replay was shown on the monitors w/in the seated areas of the yard. I have never heard a crowd boo for 3 solid innings. Didn't matter who or which team was at bat. They just didn't stop. It was impressive.
