Bucknor gets a bad rap, but close call sports says this is his first ejection in two years. He has been in some major scraps over the years, though.

Bizarre play in Los Angeles last night that reminds officials in all sports to see the ball: atmlb.com/OuCKR7Embarrassing mistake by the umpire but it was able to be quickly corrected. Yep, watch the ball and don't hurry your call!

Bucknor gets a bad rap, but close call sports says this is his first ejection in two years. He has been in some major scraps over the years, though. It's not the ejections....it's the quality of the calls or lack thereof that so influences the players in these polls and when it's the same guy every year, you can't just throw up your nands and say they don't know what they're talking about. One other thing. I do wish SNY would have one of those strike box things that show pretty clearly when an umpire is missing pitches. And besides the missed pitches, there was the absurd calling of time with Santana already delivering the ball to the plate. Good way to huyrt a pitcher's shoulder, C.B.

Bellino also had a crazy wild pitch/out at the plate in the same game. It was a bang-bang call that Bellino got right.
I think he's an up-and-comer.

Fresh off their inept weekend in Atlanta, the Dale Scott crew is working the Tampa Bay-Cleveland series. The first batter of the game hits a long drive to right center and they call it a home run. Interesting looking at both the Cleveland feed and the Tampa Bay feed, the Cleveland announcers claimed it hit above the yellow line and then dropped down on the yellow line; I felt the Tampa Bay people had it right, it hit right on the yellow line and came down. Anyway, after replay, they reverse to off the yellow line and a double. Ah ha, the value of instant replay.
BTW after watching both the Braves feed and the Mets feed from Sunday, even the Braves announcers thought C.B. was terrible on several of the pitches in the Braves big inning!

Did we have as many HR/boundary call controversies back in the 80s when we had cookie cutter stadiums like the Vet, Three Rivers and others where there was a defined fence and a big back drop? Man, there are so many kooky boundary lines in these new stadiums that I'm sure it gives the umpire fits! Houston's yellow line looks like a road map.
With crazy boundaries and better cameras these days, I'm sure the umpires are glad they can have replay help them out.
I don't begrudge an umpire for having to consult replay on some of those calls he has to make.

I don't begrudge an umpire for having to consult replay on some of those calls he has to make. I agree with you 100% and replay should be expanded despite clueless Bud's rejection of it. Just think if Richie Garcia had the benefit of replay on the Jeffrey Maier nonsense back when was it 97? Although Garcia, I believe, claimed after seeing the replay that he would have called it a double. Citi Field in its original set up put the orange line a good two or three feert in front of the stands making it impossible for a fan to reach out far enough for a non home run so if the ball ended up in the stands, it was a home run One of the worst for years was Wrigley Field....the fans sit right on top of the wall, no yellor or orange line, and there were countless arguments (most of the time, I'm sorry if people don't want to hear this, it was easier for the umpire to call it a home run if the ball ended up in the stands...the umps just couldn't see the ball against the white shirts and most of the time they took the easy way out for both teams. After a fe arguments the Cubs sort of solved the problem by installing a basket pertruding out from the wall onto the field and now it is impossible for a fan to reach out far enough to catch a ball that would be in play. No there really aren't more arguments today and thank goodness they do have a mechanism to correct obvious errors but the one last night was almost impossible to call with the naked eye from a couple of hundred feet away.

And, if you ask me, I have no idea what MLB is thinking. I seem to remember a yellow line that resembled a drunken sailor when the D-Backs crib first opened up. I remember thinking, "How the F are umpires supposed to judge that mess?"

Yes. It is an odd stance, but he has used for at least the last couple of years.
