Setting aside for the moment the question of who is telling the truth (though I have a pretty strong feeling on that too based on our cast of characters' previous reputations), my question is what is it that Hallion said that got Price so ticked off. Was it the f-word? Because baseball players have to hear that directed at them tons of times a week. Umpires probably shouldn't use that word, but as any casual lip-reader knows, they often do in arguments, with no ramifications whatsoever. I wonder if the greater issue is calling a player a liar. Recall that Bill Haller committed both "sins" in his famous tilt with Earl Weaver that's often held up in umpire schools as a model for how to deal with a pissed-off manager: Hallion has the reputation of a hot head and it was one of the contributing factors of his resignation being accepted in 1999. It is concieveable, knowing is "reputation" that he might have said those things; however for Hallion to come out that strong, putting his reputation and integrity on the line leads me to believe that Price was telling a fib. If Hallion actually DID say what Price accused him of, he was well within earshot of Price's team-mates and you know they'd come to their pitcher's defense. Regarding Haller, he would be chastised today for telling Weaver "f you" and not properly handing the situation (see Bob Davidson's suspension last year). Haller didn't scream at Weaver, but he did not handle the situation properly according to 2013 procedures. Just for the record, I think Price is lying.

Gary Thorne said on the Orioles' broadcast that Larry Vanover did have concussion symptoms. Hope Vanover will be OK.

This was a horrible ejection. Hirschbeck completely instigated the situation and was dying to toss Harper out of the game. Very unprofessional, although John is no stranger to that.

I just saw highlights of this. Totally unprofessional of Hirschbeck. He baited Harper on that one. And who knows, maybe Harper had a rough Saturday night and didn't feel like playing baseball today . This week, Mike Winter's crew is assigned to the Atlanta at Cincinnati series. Last week, Mike Winter's crew was assigned to the Washington at Atlanta series, which means that Atlanta in two of their last series was assigned Mike Winter's crew. I thought ever since interleague play began, which did away with NL and AL umpires, that a crew would not be assigned the same team twice within a 2 week period. Does anyone know if MLB did away with, or has in place, a schedule or rule for the umpires and number of times/intervals they can be assisgned to one team?

Does anyone know if MLB did away with, or has in place, a schedule or rule for the umpires and number of times/intervals they can be assisgned to one team? You are absolutely correct on the rule for scheduling. Winters in Cincinnati Yesterday was just a 1 day thing. The reason he was in Cincinnati Yesterday had to do with their being 2 make up games Yesterday so they shuffled the schedule for 1 day to avoid excess traveling. In short, Gary Cederstrom's crew has the Braves-Reds series and they were in Kansas City this weekend. Because 1 of the make up games was in Kansas City Yesterday they decided to keep Cederstrom's crew in Kansas City another day. Kansas City and seemingly every other team inc close proximity to them is one the road so they didn't want to send a crew to Kansas City for 1 day and then have them travel again. So it created a whole lot of shifting. Winters was in Cleveland this weekend so they decided to keep his crew in the same state for 1 more day. The other makeup Game was in Chicago so they sent Dale Scott's crew on the 1.5 hour drive from Milwaukee to Chicago. Today the crews are back where they were supposed to be, Cederstrom in Cincinnati, West in Chicago, Winters in Milwaukee and Scott in Baltimore. The MLB probably made this more complicated then they needed to but it was an effort to save excess traveling. I totally understand them not sending a crew to KC for 1 day.
